Exercise: Exploring drawing & painting

left; white acrlic ink applied with palette knife-right; various

left; stippled acrylic paint applied through stencil with bristle-brush-right; pencil crayons, and graphite powder around stencil

left; alcohol based markers & biro-right; watercolour & gouache applied into water with stencil resist, bleach
left; watercolour daubed with rag & paper tissues-right; crowquill nib pen, and decoupage

    This is from Jo Davies!
    I would be really interested in hearing your reactions to this diverse and self-challenging set of explorations in markmaking and media.
    It may be good , now that you have some distance from your drawings, to reflect upon your visual responses- to what you have created.
    Which processs felt most comfortable?
    Which best realised the objectives you recognised for yourself ?
    Is there any correlation between the looseness of the media use and what you perceive to be a more intuitive way of working?
    The colour choices seem very eclectic and I wonder what is behind that range?
    I find the pair of images with yellow background and watercolour bleed very interesting. In particular the diametric of the very strong compositon with built up line and the fluid watercolour.(do you know Marlene Dumas?)There is a filmic quality in the framing of these objects ad this again endorses my belief that composition could be a strength.
    A comprehensive set of work which seems to have revealed interesting media qualities that have potential for further application .
